Chicken Jalfrezi: A Burst of Flavor in Every Bite
Hello and welcome to Delicious Diaries! Today we are going to be making a delicious Chicken Jalfrezi that will definitely become a family favorite! This traditional Indian meal consists of a colorful stir-fry of chicken and veggies cooked in a tomato sauce with spices. Let's get started with the recipe!
ingredients:
- 500 grams (1 pound) of boneless chicken thighs or breasts, chopped into small pieces
- two tsp of vegetable oil
- One large onion, diced finely
- One-inch piece of minced ginger and two minced garlic cloves
- Two sliced green chilies (adjust to taste)
- One sliced red bell pepper
- One sliced green bell pepper
- one sliced medium tomato
- One tsp cumin seeds
- One tsp of mustard seeds
- One tsp powdered turmeric
- One tsp of paprika
- One tsp finely ground coriander
- One tsp garam masala
- Half a teaspoon of optional red chili powder.
- Half a cup of plain yogurt
- Season with salt to taste.
- To garnish, cut some fresh cilantro.
- To serve, cut lemon wedges
instruction:
- In a bowl, combine the chicken pieces with a pinch of salt and half a teaspoon of turmeric powder. While preparing the remaining ingredients, set them to marinate.
- The vegetable oil should be heated over medium-high heat in a sizable skillet or wok. Incorporate the mustard and cumin seeds now. Add chopped onions and stir until they begin to sizzle. Cook the onions until they take on a golden brown hue.
- Blend in the finely chopped garlic, ginger, and green chilies after adding the aromatics. Stir until aromatic, about 1 to 2 minutes more.
- Cook the chicken by adding it to the skillet after marinating it. Simmer the chicken until it's browned throughout, stirring now and then.
- Add the chopped tomatoes, ground coriander, paprika, garam masala, and red chili powder (if using) to give it some spice. Mix thoroughly to blend. Simmer until the tomatoes are soft and the chicken is coated with seasonings.
- Include Vegetables: Stir the sliced bell peppers into the chicken mixture. Simmer the veggies for an additional five minutes, or until they are crisp but still soft.
- Yogurt Addition: Turn down the heat to a simmer and mix in the plain yogurt. Simmer for a further three to four minutes to let the flavors combine. To taste, adjust the salt.
- Garnish and Serve: Remove from the heat source and scatter freshly chopped cilantro on top. Warm up and accompany with wedges of lemon.
Serving Ideas:
- Serve heated naan or steamed basmati rice with the chicken jelfrezi.
- A crisp salad and a serving of raita would also go very well with this recipe.
Tips:
- At the very end of cooking, you can add a dash of cream or coconut milk for an even richer flavor.
- Depending on how spicy you want your food, you can change the amount of red chili powder and green chilies.
- Savor this colorful, flavor-filled Chicken Jalfrezi that's appropriate for every occasion. I appreciate you being here on Delicious Diaries, and happy cooking!
